For Sale: Timewarp 25k mile ’73 911S

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

This 1973 Porsche 911S is a marvelous find with under 25,000 miles from new. While early 911’s of all types were $20,000 cars in 2000, the secret is out these days. While not the most tractable, the 911S is now worth serious money, with the best examples tickling the $100,000 mark. This car would certainly qualify as a best example, being an extremely low mileage unrestored last of the line 2.4 liter car. The seller reports that it is extremely complete and looks very nice in the pictures. (more…)

For Sale: Jaw Dropping No Expense Spared Build on Mercedes 500E

Monday, May 4th, 2009

This Mercedes-Benz 500E has been treated to an absolutely over the top build including 465hp RennTech engine and 6-speed manual transmission, and is available from Hatch and Sons in Massachusetts. The car has been for sale for quite some time, and last we heard, the car was offered at just shy of $60,000. The story of the 500E has been recounted many times, but in essence, the car was the result of a collaboration between Mercedes and Porsche in which the engine of the 500SL was shoehorned into the 300E chassis, thus necessitating the aggressive flared fenders. For Sale: Unusual Italo-American Hybrid with 2400 Miles from New

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

This 1964 Apollo 5000GT is the second to last example of less than 100 built, and is available from Bobileff Motorcar Company in San Diego for $79,000. TME has known this particular car for some years, and it has covered just 2400 miles from new. It was previously owned by the car’s original designer, Milt Brown, who sympathetically recommissioned the car after decades of inactivity. It goes without saying that the car remains extremely correct and original.

For Sale: One-Off Jaguar Racer Built by John Fitch

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

This one-off special is based on a Jaguar XK120 and is available from Automotive Restorations in Stratford, Connecticut. It was built by John Fitch, an American racer who raced during the 1950’s and 1960’s in the world sports car championship, winning Sebring and the Mille Miglia, and competing at Le Mans several times as well. This car was built to compete at Le Mans but is reported never to have raced there because Fitch was later signed with Briggs Cunningham. It is an attractive car built in period, with known mechanicals, providing an appealing combination of attributes for event use.

Fully Restored Early Fiat Dino Spider

Monday, April 27th, 2009

This 1967 Fiat Dino Spider looks like an extremely nice example and is available for a fully priced $67,500 from The San Diego Collection in, logically enough, San Diego. Powered by the Ferrari 2.0 liter V6 that would be used in the Ferrari Dino and the Lancia Stratos, these are elegant cars styled by Pininfarina. The elegance of the cars means that yellow is perhaps not the best choice for the car, but it is difficult to argue with this car’s condition. Until quite recently, these cars were not worth very much, which means that many examples are incomplete, have had their engines pillaged, or have been tastelessly modified. (more…)

For Sale: World Class Grand Touerer from…Switzerland?? 1970 Monteverdi High Speed 375L

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

This 1970 Monteverdi 375 L is available here from F40 Motorsports in Portland, Connecticut. This Swiss are not exactly prolific car manufacturers, but Switzerland is a country full of car enthusiasts. Peter Monteverdi was a Swiss distributor for Ferrari, Lancia, and BMW automobiles, and following a disagreement with Mr. Ferrari, he set out to produce his own cars. Thus, Monteverdi is another company that owes its existence to the abrasive personality of Enzo Ferrari (like ATS and Lamborghini). (more…)
