For Sale: 1974 Porsche Carrera with 3.2

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

This 1974 Carrera is available for $25,000 on Craiglist in Seattle, Washington from Redmond European, a shop that does great work on Porsches. The very sharp will recognize Dane Burns’ spectacular 3.6 liter 911 that was featured in Excellence Magazine a couple years ago in the background of one of the pictures. This car is a great looking car nicely plays the Grand Prix White/Blue color scheme that will always been associated with the 1973 RS. It has some great stuff on it, including upgraded suspension, and beautifully finished fuchs alloy wheels in the desirable 7″ and 8″ widths. The car also has some other goodies such as 3.2 liter Motronic engine, (more…)

For sale: Mechanically sorted but cosmetically rough 911E

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

This 1969 911E Coupe on Ebay, while rough looking, is a very sorted car mechanically. We know the owner of this car and can personally attest to the fact that this car was used as a daily driver and has been a regular sight in the North and East San Francisco Bay Area for the last few years. The owner got the car after a long period (~20 years) of storage, which necessitated the complete rebuilding of the fuel system, from the tank to the injectors since the entire system was filled with bad gas. The brake system was also renewed at this time. The owner is very fastidious and detail oriented, so one can be sure that the work that was done was done well. (more…)

for sale: Alfa Duetto not run in 17 years

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

It’s an Alfa day here apparently. Here on Craiglist SF for $9000 is a 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto that has not run in 17 years. Somehow despite this, the seller reports the top is new, and shockingly, the car needs new tires as well! Our estimate is that the car will need more than just tires. The seller also reports that the car has some rust, and the extent of the rust and its location is what makes or breaks this deal. There is no mention of the condition of the engine, but in a best case scenario, all that’s required is a battery and a tune-up.

for sale: Hot Rodded 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Giulias are great little cars that are legitimate sports sedans in the same way that we think of them today, which was pretty unusual in the early 60’s. This one one is available on Ebay and the Alfa Bulletin Board and has lots of potential but a few issues to be sorted as well, the most serious is two bum cylinders with lowish compression. The remaining issues are not too serious and are the kind of issues that are relatively easy and satisfying to sort out on a new acquisition.

for sale: Tastefully upgraded Jaguar E-type Coupe

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Jaguar E-Types are cars that respond superbly to tasteful upgrading and personalization. This one is at Northshore Imports for just shy of $70,000, which is a full but fair retail price for such a nicely done car. This one has been done very well, with 5-speed transmission, alloy wheels, and triple Webers. There are likely many other upgrades (such as brakes and suspension) that the car has, but that the seller does not mention. The only point to nitpick is the side mirrors, which would be nicer if they were Talbot or other period chromed items. Throw on some European amber front and rear turn signal lenses, and the exterior would be perfect.

Alfa Sprint Speciale on Ebay

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Sprint Speciales are great looking variants of the Giulietta that are only marginally more expensive than the more normal looking Sprint Veloce version. Their looks are inspired by the outlandish BAT cars and the Disco Volante, and this example is available on EBay with a starting bid of $35,000 and no reserve. All Sprint Speciales are equipped with the Veloce specification engine, which included higher compression, hotter cams, and twin Weber carburetors. The seller of this car is reassuringly nitpicky, and the car looks like a nice usable car on the whole.
