Porsche Factory Tour Video From the Early 1960′s

This is a totally awesome video made at the Porsche factory, depicting the production of the 356 in high detail. They are T5 body 356B’s, indicating that the video was made between 1959 and 1961. The cars were, to a large extent, made by hand, as the title “Made by Hand” suggests.

Spectacular Gymkhana

If you thought gymkhana was dead, this video will convince you that it is alive and well. It features an incredible series of maneuvers by Ken Block driving a heavily prepared Subaru WRX STi. Even if you don’t care for modern cars, the driving in this video is nothing short of awesome.

Vic Elford on the 1972 Targa Florio

Here’s some vintage in car footage from the 1972 Targa Florio with Vic Elford narrating. This is from the event’s second to last year as a world championship event, which Elford noted even then was old fashioned for its treachery since it was run on open roads passing through villages.

This vintage film from the mid 1960′s brings absolute legends together: 1939 Grand Prix Champion Hermann Lang drives the 1937 Mercedes-Benz W125 Grand Prix car at the Nurburgring while 1962 Sports Car Champion Graham Hill narrates. Powered by a supercharged 5.7 liter inline-8 producing over 640hp, the W125 was the world’s most powerful car by far in 1937, and would not be surpassed for decades until the arrival of Can Am cars in the 1960′s. It was not until the 1980′s that Formula 1 cars reached this level of power again!

Behind the Scenes of Lelouch’s Rendezvous

French film director Claude Lelouch’s nine-minute film Rendezvous is a legend among car enthusiasts. The legend has it that one very early morning in August of 1976, he affixed a then new gyroscopically stabilized 8mm camera to the front of his Ferrari 275 and tore through Paris at high speed without stopping, running several red lights in the process. He was reportedly arrested when it was first publicly shown, and rumours were rampant about who had been driving (including the possibility of Formula 1 drivers). (more…)
