For Sale: Timewarp 25k mile ’73 911S

This 1973 Porsche 911S is a marvelous find with under 25,000 miles from new. While early 911’s of all types were $20,000 cars in 2000, the secret is out these days. While not the most tractable, the 911S is now worth serious money, with the best examples tickling the $100,000 mark. This car would certainly qualify as a best example, being an extremely low mileage unrestored last of the line 2.4 liter car. The seller reports that it is extremely complete and looks very nice in the pictures. It also has great options such as sport seats (worth several thousand dollars in and of themselves) and stainless steel muffler skirt.

The beigegrau paint is the car’s original color and is perhaps an acquired taste, but a good one once it is acquired. It looks very smart on these cars and has a great period feel without being as loud as some of the other contemporary period colors (like blutorange, signal yellow, conda and viper greens etc.). The car looks very correct with Durant mirror, steel S front spoiler and correctly finished Fuchs, which the seller reports have been restored by the well-regarded Al Reed.

At the rear, the car has European rear lenses but is otherwise stock in appearance. The steel muffler skirt may not be to everyone’s taste but is a desirable option. The car wears a recent California license plate and would look nicer with six digit blue plates. As a 1973, the car should have unfortunate rubber over riders if it was sold new in the United States, which either indicates that this is a European car (though it has US front turn signal lenses) or that they have thankfully been removed.

The interior is equally clean, and the leather upholstery is shockingly nice if it is original. The coco mats are a retro touch that are enjoying a resurgence in popularity of late, and the seller reports that the often expired door pockets have been replaced in this example.

The engine is also extremely nice and is the desirable mechanically injected unit. The seller reports that the car has recently received a major service which should alleviate any concerns about “sit-itis” since the car has covered so few miles.

This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire an unmolested example of this desirable model. During the years when these were just used cars, many examples were butchered with later engines and later style impact bumpers. This car has escaped that fate and will undoubtedly be accordingly expensive. Autosport Designs has a silver 28,000 mile car for which they are asking $135,000, but they are notorious for their astronomical asking prices. Also worth noting is that their car does not have sport seats, has been repainted, and has the incorrect steering wheel. This beigegrau car is likely less expensive and does not suffer from these nitpicks.
