No Compromises Lightweight Porsche 911

1984 Porsche 911 Coupe Hot Rod For Sale

This 1984 Porsche 911 Coupe is available on Pelican Parts for $36,500/offers and is about as aggressive a build as one would want and still drive on the street. The car has been upgraded from top to bottom using the highest quality parts, while the combination of intense diet (over 500 pounds worth or 20%) and increased power from the 3.4 liter twin-plug engine mean that the car is sure to be an absolute riot to drive.

The car has a superb stance and sits on 17″ replica fuchs to clear the Brembo brakes. It is finished in evocative and groovy viper green, and the Carrera script and ducktail are a popular pairing that look good together. The IROC bumpers are the lightest and most cost effective way to get the significant weight savings that come with fiberglass bumpers, and the 911R lights are the lightest possible option, even if they are out of place on such a late car. The 935 mirrors are the lightest and most aerodynamic option for side mirrors, and indeed this line of reasoning is obvious throughout the car. In all cases, it’s clear that the builder selected the option that would lead to the best possible driving experience, occasionally at the expense of period feel, which is of course what this car is all about.

This theme continues inside the car, with the removal of all non-necessary components. The electric windows remain, though Porsche geek discussions on forums indicate that the weight savings from switching to manual windows are negligible. The suede like finish on the dash looks businesslike and reduces glare, while the Recaro SPG’s are excellent seats for performance and comfort (as fixed back seats go). There are numerous other lightweight details such as the deleted lower dash and console, lightweight carpets, and RS America door panels.

The engine is also an impressive sight, with more modern engine management via electronic fuel injection. There are tons of trick details and the spec sheet on the engine is mouthwatering. The spec indicates that the engine appears to have been done with high-rpm durability in mind.

The build on this car is pretty extreme for street use, even to the young hooligans at TME. It does not have heat or a rear defroster since the rear screen is lexan (don’t even ask about AC!), so would be appropriate for fair weather only. The suspension seems aggressive for street use, particularly with 17″ wheels, but we would reserve judgment until driving the car. None of that matters while driving though, and the asking price is extremely reasonable considering the work done and money spent. It is a narrowly focused car that won’t appeal to everyone though, which sadly for the seller, will make it a bit harder to find the right home for the car.

Great attention to detail and a wild machine. One wonders where you could open it up in today’s world. At least you could drive it to the track. Canadian, right ? Not sure if it’s possible to federalize a car like this. Altho I suppose anything is possible, given sufficient time and $$$

This car could be imported to the states with no problem actually. It’s 25 years old so it is exempt from federalization. Wouldn’t pass smog in CA, so it probably would be difficult to register in some states, but it would be fine in others!
